Christian Dior was born in 1905 in a small town, Grenville, of France. At 5 years old, his family moved to Paris. His growing up years were spent in museums and galleries, but instead of taking up art, he studied Political Science at the Ecole des Sciences Politiques (1925). Two years after graduation, he served the obligatory 2 years in the French Army. After he got out, he opened an art gallery and was an art dealer from 1928-1931. Then he fell upon hare times, with the untimely death of both his mother and his brother and the bankruptcy of his family business. When God closes a door, he opens a window. Christian Dior began to put his passion in fashion design during that miserable time. In 1946 he started his own salon. For a long time, he had been thinking to design clothing to make women feel like flowers. So the Dior New Look was born to bring back beauty feminine clothing, soft rounded shapes and full flowing skirts. Women all over the world were embracing this wonderful new look of the Christian Dior Dresses. From that on the reputation of Christian Dior has been widely spread. Then every 6 months he released a now line, releasing 22 lines very swiftly.
The fashion talent passed on with a sudden heart attack in the year of 1957. Nevertheless, the development of Christian Dior has not stopped. In 1960s, the motorcycle jackets made of alligator skin shocked the fashion world again. Under the leadship of Mark Bohan and then Bernard Arnault, the House of Dior has gained a lot of successes. Now Christian Dior continues to expand and its stores have spread all over the world. Until this year Dior has operated about 160 boutiques worldwide with plans to open more in coming years.
